Jean-David Caprace

Director of Academic Affairs COPPE|UFRJ Jean-David Caprace is currently a Professor at the Ocean Engineering Department of the respected Alberto Luiz Coimbra Institute for Graduate Studies and Research in Engineering (COPPE) at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). He has played an important role in leading various international projects focused on Ocean and Marine engineering, both within Europe and Brazil. Jean-David's expertise lies primarily in ocean and marine engineering, where he has significantly contributed to the field through his extensive research efforts that have resulted in groundbreaking solutions used in shipbuilding, offshore construction, port logistics, and international marine transportation. His significant achievements include being awarded 2021 a highly esteemed research productivity grant from Brazil's National Council for Scientific and Technological Development, which exemplifies his exceptional standing within academia. In recognition of his contributions to the field, he was awarded the "Amigo da Marinha" medal by the Brazilian Navy in 2022. He obtained a Ph.D. in Ocean Engineering from the University of Liège in Belgium (2010). Additionally, he served as the technical director of the Brazilian Society of Naval Engineering (2018-2022), Head of UFRJ|COPPE's graduate program in Ocean Engineering (2019-2023), and Director of Academic Affairs at COPPE (2023-2027).
